Refractory Bricks

Three key points to reduce corrosion of glass kiln pool wall bricks

May 23,2024

During the operation of a glass kiln, it is inevitable that the brick surface of the pool wall exposed to the kiln will be eroded. The so-called control is to slow down the speed of erosion. Its control direction needs to start from the following three aspects:

01Design, manufacturing and construction

From the perspective of economy, different pool wall materials and thicknesses should be selected according to the service life and location of the kiln, and whole bricks should be used as much as possible. When choosing layered construction, the upper layer should be made of shallow cast pool wall bricks without shrinkage holes. The contact brick surfaces of the upper and lower pool walls should be carefully processed to ensure that the brick joints are small. Choose pool wall brick manufacturers with good reputation and trustworthy quality to ensure the physical and chemical indicators and processing accuracy of the bricks. When laying bricks on the pool wall, ensure the construction quality, the size of the brick joints meets the requirements, the upper and lower contact surfaces are tight, and the brick body is not damaged.

02 Baking kiln aspect

Expansion joints around the pool wall should be inspected and cleaned before ignition. Design a scientific and reasonable heating curve and ensure the quality of the kiln. Since the expansion of fused refractory materials changes greatly at 1000~1100℃, try to design a heat preservation process and increase the kiln temperature for over-fire to reduce the impact on the pool when the kiln is over-fire. Effects of wall tile impact. When the temperature of the kiln rises to about 300°C, the pool wall cooling fan is turned on. As the temperature gradually increases, the cooling air volume gradually increases. During normal production, the air blows normally to prevent the pool wall bricks from pulverizing and bursting. Adjust the iron parts of the top pool wall tiles in time.

03Operation aspect

(1) Melting operation:

Improve melting operation capabilities to ensure "four major stability" and "four minor stability", especially to avoid significant changes in the position of the stockpile, material deviation and large fluctuations in liquid level.

(2) Pool wall cooling air:

The corrosion of pool wall tiles is most serious at the glass liquid surface at the three-phase interface of solid phase - gas phase - liquid phase. Use the cooling air system correctly and adjust the position of the air nozzle in time to reduce the temperature here and reduce the erosion rate. In order to prevent the pool wall bricks from exploding and the cooling air volume not to fluctuate greatly, a fan motor instantaneous power failure starting device is installed to reduce the impact of a power outage on the fan. In the event of a long-term power outage, after the fan is started, the cooling air volume should be slowly increased to avoid large-scale explosion of the pool wall tiles caused by rapid cooling.

(3) Material pile:

The most severely eroded part of the pool wall is the part that is impacted by the "Babang Slit", which is much more serious than the erosion of the fused zirconium corundum bricks caused by pure glass liquid contacting the pool wall. There are many ways to control the stockpile, and the appropriate method should be selected according to the actual situation of the enterprise.

① Appropriately increase the temperature of the coating area of the melting part or add a "0" gun in front of the 1# small furnace, and use pure oxygen combustion technology to enhance the pre-melting effect of the batch materials, shorten the length of the material mountain, and avoid forming eight-shaped materials as much as possible. Thereby reducing the erosion of the pool wall by the material pile;

② Insert the material guide water rod in the center of the feeding pool to close the feeding material piles on both sides to avoid eight-shaped materials and achieve the purpose of the material pile not touching the pool wall;

③ Insert material water bars on both sides of the feeding tank to prevent and ease the direct erosion of the pool wall bricks by the batch materials and glass liquid, and reduce the erosion of the pool wall;

④ Use a feeding pool with full width or quasi-equal width. The feeding port is designed with a feeding pool structure with full width or quasi-equal width to make the material layer thinner, which can prevent material deviation and reduce the impact angle of the material pile against the wall of the tank. , reduce impact erosion.
