Refractory Bricks

Effect of holding time on the physical properties of fused silica bricks for coke ovens

Jun 18,2024

The effect of holding time on the physical properties of fused silica bricks for coke ovens is a complex and critical area of research. As an important refractory material for coke ovens, the stability of fused silica bricks' physical properties is directly related to the operating efficiency and safety of coke ovens. Therefore, an in-depth study of the impact of holding time on the physical properties of fused silica bricks is of great significance for optimizing the coke oven structure and improving production efficiency.

The holding time has a significant impact on the volume density of fused silica bricks. During the preparation process of fused silica bricks, appropriate heat preservation time helps to fully melt and densify the siliceous raw materials, thereby increasing the volume density of the bricks. However, too long heat preservation time may cause over-burning inside the brick, which will reduce the volume density and affect the overall performance of the brick.

The holding time also has an important influence on the apparent porosity of fused silica bricks. Apparent porosity is a key indicator for evaluating the density of refractory materials. Appropriate heat preservation time can fully discharge the gas in the siliceous raw material, reduce the apparent porosity, and improve the density of the brick body. However, if the heat preservation time is too long, the gas may not be effectively discharged, causing the apparent porosity to increase, affecting the erosion resistance and thermal shock resistance of the brick.

The holding time will also affect the thermal conductivity and flexural strength of fused silica bricks. Prolonging the heat preservation time can promote the crystallization of siliceous raw materials, thereby improving the thermal conductivity of the bricks. However, too long heat preservation time may cause micro-cracks inside the brick body and reduce its flexural strength. Therefore, the holding time needs to be strictly controlled during the preparation process to balance the relationship between thermal conductivity and flexural strength.

In summary, the holding time has a significant impact on the physical properties of fused silica bricks for coke ovens. In the actual production process, the holding time should be reasonably adjusted according to specific needs and process conditions to optimize the performance of the fused silica bricks.
