What are the commonly used refractory materials for heating furnaces?

Nov 30,2024

There are many types of refractory materials commonly used in heating furnaces, and each material has its specific use conditions and advantages. The following are some common refractory materials for heating furnaces:

High-alumina refractory castables:

Brands: GL-85, GL-70, GL-60, GN-50, GN-42, etc.

Scope of use: Generally used in the low-temperature zone, flue part of the heating furnace, and the furnace body of the heating furnace with a temperature not higher than 1300℃.

Features: Using aluminate cement as a binder, it has the characteristics of fast setting speed, high strength, and good slag resistance.

Self-flowing refractory castables:

Scope of use: Suitable for parts of the heating furnace with complex structures that cannot be vibrated manually.

Features: Good thermal shock resistance, high refractoriness, simple construction, and the maximum use temperature can reach 1500℃.

Low-cement refractory castables:

Brands: GDL-55, GDL-60, GDL-65, GDL-75, etc.

Scope of use: Suitable for high temperature and medium temperature zones of heating furnaces, with an operating temperature between 1400~1500℃.

Features: With micro powder as a binder and aluminate cement as a coagulant, it has the characteristics of good thermal shock resistance, high load softening temperature, strong slag resistance, and high refractoriness.

Phosphate refractory castable:

Scope of use: Suitable for the bottom of the heating furnace and other parts that are severely affected by material friction and hot air scouring, with an operating temperature between 1000~1600℃.

Features: With phosphoric acid or phosphate as a binder, it has the characteristics of high refractoriness, good thermal shock resistance, high compressive strength, strong erosion and impact resistance, and good wear resistance.

Mullite refractory castable:

Brand: MN-52, MN-62, MN-65, MN-70, etc.

Scope of use: Generally used in key parts such as the furnace wall and furnace roof of the heating furnace, and can also be used to prefabricate burner bricks.

Features: high thermal shock resistance, good erosion resistance, good volume stability, high operating temperature.

Lightweight thermal insulation castable:

Brand: NQ-0.6, NQ-0.8, NQ-1.0, NQ-1.2, NQ-1.4, etc.

Scope of use: Mainly used for thermal insulation layers of furnace walls, furnace roofs, flues, etc. High-strength lightweight refractory castables can also be used in the working lining of exhaust systems and hot air ducts.

Features: small volume density, low reburning line change rate, low thermal conductivity, and a certain degree of refractoriness.

Refractory fiber material:

Scope of use: Mainly used as thermal insulation lining for industrial kilns.

Features: It can reduce the weight of the furnace body, make the furnace body heat up quickly, have low thermal conductivity, small high-temperature shrinkage, have good thermal insulation performance, and are easy to process and install.

Refractory plastic:

Scope of use: It can be used for the furnace roof and furnace wall working surface of the heating furnace.

Features: The whole is rammed without gaps, with strong integrity, good airtightness, less heat loss, and energy saving; high high temperature strength, good thermal shock resistance, strong spalling resistance, and good mechanical vibration resistance, which can extend the life of the furnace and reduce production costs.

Shaped refractory products:

Including: high alumina bricks, clay bricks, etc.

Scope of use: Can be used for heating furnace lining.

Shaped insulating refractory products:

Including: clay insulating refractory bricks, high alumina insulating refractory bricks and diatomaceous earth insulating refractory bricks, etc.

Scope of use: Can be used for the thermal insulation layer of the heating furnace lining.

The selection of refractory materials for heating furnaces should be comprehensively considered based on the furnace's operating conditions, temperature range, working environment and other factors to ensure the safe, efficient and stable operation of the furnace.
