High-aluminum refractory mud is the joint material of high-aluminum refractory bricks, which plays a bonding role. It can be identified whether it can be used again after a long storage time.
High-aluminum refractory mud is a joint material. It needs to be identified whether it can be used again after a long storage time. Separately packaged binders cannot be used for more than 6 months and need to be replaced. If there is no binder, you can smell the odor to judge. If there is no odor, you can re-add the binder for use. If the binder is added directly and stored for more than 6 months, it can be judged by testing. If it can bond two refractory bricks, it can be used. Otherwise, add a reasonable proportion of binder and do the test again. If it succeeds, it can be used.
First, check whether there is a separately packaged binder in the high-aluminum refractory mud. If it has been more than 6 months, it cannot be used and needs to be replaced. If there is no separately packaged binder, you can grab a part and smell it to see if there is any odor. If there is an odor, the binder has been added to the refractory powder during production. If there is no odor, it proves that the binder has not been added. It is best not to add them together, so that the binder can be re-added and it can be used.
However, if the binder is added directly to the high-aluminum refractory mud during production, and the storage time has exceeded 6 months, a test should be conducted on site. The test is very simple. You can weigh 1kg of refractory powder, then add 20-25% drinking water, stir the refractory powder into a slurry, and then use two refractory bricks of the same material, take a part of the refractory mud and add it to one refractory brick, smooth the mud, and then put the second refractory brick.
Rub the two refractory bricks back and forth for about fifteen times. At this time, if the two refractory bricks are directly stuck together. Prove that this batch of high-aluminum refractory mud can still be used.
If the high-aluminum refractory mud cannot bond two refractory bricks, you can add some binder in a reasonable proportion, and then do another on-site test using the above method. The refractory bricks are bonded and can be put into use.
The binder in high-alumina refractory mud is to promote the bonding effect of the mud. After being baked at a fire temperature, the binder essentially no longer exists. Therefore, it depends on the situation whether the high-alumina refractory mud that has been stored for a long time can be reused.
