Refractory Bricks

Phosphate bricks are used for lining rotary kilns. Which type of brick is better, axe bricks or fan bricks?

When phosphate bricks are used for lining rotary kilns, they can be axe-shaped or fan-shaped, as long as the appropriate size is calculated based on the diameter of the lining.

Compared with the current brick market share, axe bricks occupy a relatively large share, and fan bricks are rarely used. In general, fan-shaped phosphate bricks are mainly used in rotary kilns for lime, and fan-shaped bricks are rarely used in other rotary kilns.

However, whether it is fan-shaped or axe-shaped, the appropriate brick size and strict masonry are the key to the long life of phosphate bricks. This depends on the manufacturer's practice. When using axe-shaped bricks, two to three types of interlocking bricks should be designed for each brick ring, and the length and width of the main brick of the interlocking steel plate can be shortened by 10 mm.

There are fan-shaped bricks used in rotary lime kiln phosphate kilns, but they are not many in number. When using fan-shaped stones, the joint stones can be omitted. Usually, when assembling bricks, one brick is cut out for each ring. If the furnace head is fitted with a gasket or if the brick material is changed, the thickness of the main brick (fan brick) should be 10-20 mm thinner than that of the fan brick. That is, for the last two brick rings, two types of phosphate bricks of different thicknesses are used, compressed and tightly placed. However, the inner and outer rings of the fan stone have different curvatures, although not very noticeable, and therefore differ slightly from the axe stone when laid. When using phosphate bricks as a lining for a rotary kiln, an inspection of the masonry of the kiln body is necessary, regardless of whether it is axe-shaped or fan-shaped. A steel sealing plate is inserted during the furnace inspection in line with the free rotation. In addition, it is important to seal the room. In order to strengthen the phosphate bricks in the furnace body and extend their life, an inspection of the furnace is essential.

Therefore, the quality of the phosphate bricks used in the rotary kiln is very important and has nothing to do with the type of brick used. If the size of the bricks is appropriate, it does not matter what type of bricks are used.
