Zircon brick is made from stable zircon sand. Zircon sand is based on zirconium silicate (ZrO2.SiO2 or ZrSiO4).
Zircon brick is acid refractory with the advantages of high mechanical strength, high refractoriness under load, excellent thermal shock stability, good creep resistance and good corrosion resistance to glass liquid. It is resistant to most oxides and not wetted by many metals and it is an excellent crucible refractory material in metallurgy industry.
During the using process, zircon firebricks with high refractoriness is not easy to dissolve when it is by chemical corrosion of slag, however, the slag may invase the internal of the brick through air hole and reacts with the decomposed zircon particle, form metamorphic layer and make the brick broken. In order to improve the using effect, slag permeability must be decreased. In actual production, when reducing the porosity of zircon brick, high bauxite or fused alumina can be added into raw material of zircon brick to improve the permeability resistance of zircon brick.
Zircon brick is suitable for working under pressure with its good thermal shock resistance. In metallurgical industry, zircon brick is widely used in ladle lining, casting export, high temperature induction furnace lining and so on. With the strong resistance to acid slag and glass liquid, in glass industry, zircon brick is applied to severely damaged parts of glass furnace. In addition, crucible, pipe, boat, dish and test container made by zircon brick are widely used in place related to high temperature. Zircon brick with high density and low porosity is suitable to the liner of glass furnace of glass fiber.
