Refractory Bricks

Selection principle of refractory for glass melting furnace

Mar 06,2019

Before using refractory materials, you need to understand the following factors first.

Glass furnace service life;

Glass quality requirements;

Production capacity, the melting rate and the melting temperature;

Insulation, in which parts to keep warm in order to save fuel;

Economic, that is, how much investment

When selecting refractory materials, it is necessary to meet the requirements for use, to ensure the economics of the pool furnace, and to facilitate production.

(1) Guaranteed use requirements

The various refractory materials used in the construction of glass furnaces should meet the following basic requirements:

Should have a high softening, melting temperature, general refractoriness of not less than 1580

It has sufficient mechanical strength to withstand impact, friction, high temperature and high speed flames, smoke scouring and other mechanical effects.

High temperature structural strength, can withstand mechanical load for a long time at operating temperature.

Strong resistance to the erosion of the components of the molten batch, molten glass and gaseous substances

The pollution to the glass is small.

Resistance to quenching and rapid heat (thermal shock) is good.

High temperature volume stability, residual shrinkage or expansion is small.

Thermal properties such as heat capacity, thermal expansion, and thermal conductivity meet the requirements for use.

The shape is regular and the size is accurate.

Other requirements based on the conditions of use (such as the electrical properties of the electrode bricks to meet the requirements of use).

The refractory material must be selected according to the different erosion conditions of each part of the pool furnace.

(2) Guarantee the economy of the pool furnace

It is necessary to pay attention to the actual use of refractory materials, and fully study the balance of service life of refractory materials in all parts of the whole pool furnace, and less investment to obtain greater economic effects. The economy of the glass pool furnace and the balance of the life of the entire pool furnace are fully guaranteed.

3) Easy to manufacture

When selecting refractory materials, it is necessary to combine both use and manufacturing. Refractory brick type, the standardization of size is conducive to the development of refractory production, easy to achieve the design of glass pool furnace design, and is conducive to construction and maintenance. S&P bricks typically cost 30% to 50% less than shaped bricks. A standard refractory brick type should be preferred for glass furnaces.
