With the arrival of summer, temperatures are high and rainfall is abundant. When producing refractory castable, it is necessary to pay attention to certain details to ensure efficient castable use.
In summer, castable construction is affected by temperature. During construction, care must be taken to ensure that the castable does not solidify too quickly, which would affect construction progress or lead to construction failure.
In this case, the castable producer must pay close attention to the refractory castable production process and make minor adjustments to accommodate the practicality of high-temperature construction.
Some manufacturers add speed bumps to accommodate site usage. However, retarders can be prepared in advance and stored separately. It is recommended not to use them if the temperature is below 30°C. If the temperature exceeds 30°C, a retarder can be added, but it is generally not used.
Furthermore, in summer, when it rains heavily, it is easy to get wet. During the rainy season, adequate measures must be taken to protect against moisture. Since the binder in refractory castable is cement with a high aluminum content and other binders in reasonable proportions, it is not possible to get them wet. If the refractory castable is damp, it will stick, and the agglomerated binder can no longer be mixed or used. For this reason, it is important to cover the castable with a tarpaulin during transport to prevent rain from penetrating. When the goods arrive at the construction site, be sure to store them in a warehouse and keep them away from moisture to prevent them from clumping and becoming waste.
If the temperature is too high, above 30°C, attention must be paid to cooling. When mixing castable in a cement mixer, the water must be clean and potable. You can also use fresh water from a well. Since the water temperature in a well is low, it is advisable to adjust the coagulation speed of the castable mix to obtain high-temperature castable mixtures.
After completing the production and pouring of the refractory mix, ensure that it cools by pouring plenty of water over it or covering it with curtains or plastic wrap to ensure proper maintenance.
