Refractory Bricks

Why Zircon Brick Is Widely Used In Glass Furnace?

Mar 30,2017
In glass industry, zircon brick is mainly used in the superstructure of flame space and tank bottom of glass furnace. In terms of zircon brick, zircon brick can be divided into different types according to the content of ZrO2. Obviously, the higher the content of ZrO2, the better the stability, the higher the ability of bearing high temperature and the higher the resistance to glass liquid. Of course, in order to meet the needs of different kilns, the specific content of ZrO2 can be changed flexibly according to customer requirements.

Why is ZrO2 so widely used in glass furnace? As you know, it is up to the special characteristic of zircon, zircon is a mineral belonging to the group of nesosilicates. Its chemical name is zirconium silicate and its corresponding chemical formula is ZrSiO4. In recent years, zircon has attracted considerable attention as a high-technology material for industrial applications, because of its superior mechanical, thermal, electrical, chemical and optical properties. Due to these special properties, zircon is also widely used in glass industry which is called zircon brick. The main composition of zircon brick is ZrO2, generally the contents is above 64%, at the same time SiO2 and Fe2O3 are added to the material when producing zircon brick which can make its micro structure denser.

Zircon brick has excellent performance when used in glass furnace, Zircon brick is designed to using in specific environment where the zircon brick need to withstand high temperature and heavy pressure;at the same time zircon brick can still keep its own stability. In addition, zircon brick has the ability of strong resistance to glass liquid, good creep resistance and high refractoriness under load. So zircon brick can also be used in glass contact portion of alkali free or low-alkali glass melting furnace, especially some special region of glass tank, such as paving part and secondary layer of paving bottom, wall and bottom of fore hearth, flowing spout and spinning portion and melter, back lining of fore hearth, and also used in lining of other quality glass furnace and special glass furnace with high corrosion resistance, such as boron silicate glass, ceramic glass, low-alkali or other technical glass.
